Welcome to StartingUpAgain. I’ll be charting the progress and learnings from building my new startup.
About me
I’m David Tuck. I’ve always loved business and spotting commercial opportunities. My first “enterprise” was aged six going door to door in our Cul-De-Sac selling pine cones.
I started my career in 2006 with Deloitte where I worked in tax and qualified as a Chartered Accountant & Chartered Tax Adviser. I moved on to a succession of startup finance roles. I then started Chaser, a credit control software, in 2013 which I ran until leaving in July 2020.
I’m building my fifth startup - my second business startup after Chaser alongside my three children. For anyone who’s interested, ensuring your children find person-world fit is an infinitely more daunting task than finding product-market fit for your business startup!
Why write StartingUpAgain?
A multitude of reasons:
To pay forward and share my learnings with others
To capture the journey for posterity to be able to reflect back in future
To help clarify my own thinking - misguided incompatible thinking can hide in plain sight inside the brain in a way that it can’t in writing
To hold myself accountable for progress - it’s easy to get stuck as an entrepreneur, particularly in the very early stages. Knowing I’m going to be writing this can help defend against procrastination
To hone my writing craft through deliberate practice - I love writing and a life goal is to write a book, or whatever might replace books as a medium, one day
Who is StartingUpAgain for?
I am writing StartingUpAgain as a second-time Founder, starting a business alongside an active family life with three young children. Its relevance will naturally be linearly correlated with the similarity of the reader’s situation to mine. Regardless, I hope that there will be value here for anyone contemplating or already starting a startup, whether for the first or subsequent time. Or for anyone interested in the unique world that is startups and the process of building one.
Upcoming posts
In due course, I plan to get to a regular cadence of writing about the present day progress, plans and perspective in building my next startup. Initially there is a retrospective backlog to clear to get to that present day. In the coming weeks I will post about my experience:
Welcome, thanks for reading and stay tuned!
I'll be following along with great interest! All the best!
I'm sure StartingUpAgain will be an invaluable resource for anyone considering taking the leap into the StartUp world.
Thanks for sharing this David!
